Frequently Asked Questions
I live in Bucharest, Romania.
Thanks to high speed Internet and Skype, it is easy for me to work with clients worldwide.
First, we will schedule a consultation via phone, skype or email to discuss your project. This initial approach will give us a chance to discuss your project needs and expectations in some depth. If I feel that I would be a good match for your needs, I will then email you a proposal and an invoice via Paypal. Some projects require a 50% upfront deposit before any work can begin. I found this way to be the best way to work with my clients over the last years.
No matter where in the world you are, it’s really easy for us to work together. Here’s how the process works:
1. Contact me and let’s talk. We can chat back and forth through email, on the phone, or use something like Skype/Google Hangouts. We’ll talk about your ideas for the project, and the schedule.
2. I will provide a link that you can use to upload your music files to me. You’ll upload your files along with any reference material we’ve discussed.
3. I will grab your files and load them up in the studio, to make sure everything is present and accounted for. This will allow me to hear what you’ve got and get a good idea about what will be needed to create exactly what you’re after.
4. We will catch up again and settle on rates, payment, and due date. Once we agree on rates and payment you pay 50% up-front, with the remainder due once the project is done and you are absolutely satisfied.
5. Once the first half of the payment is received I will begin working on the mix. I can do the entire thing start-to-finish on my own, but prefer to communicate with you throughout.
6. I will send you the song for review (Mp3 version). I listen to mixes on a variety of speakers and headphones and I suggest you do the same, making notes about revisions. We will discuss the song and make adjustments until we’re both happy with it.
7. Once we both agree it’s complete, you’ll pay the remaining 50% of the agreed price.
8. I will export and send you the final versions, in full quality WAV files. I’m happy to include any other commonly-requested versions as well, e.g. acapella (nothing but the voices), instrumental (nothing but the music), performance (all the music and voices, except the lead vocal), and MP3/M4A (suitable for streaming, iTunes, etc.).
I charge a flat rate per song for mixing. Many mix engineers charge by the hour, which helps to insulate them against long-winded projects, but at the client’s expense. I prefer the flat rate approach because it means that my clients know exactly what to expect, and can budget accordingly.
I handle editing (vocal tuning, drum alignment, cleaning up breaths and pops, etc.) on a price per track basis. I recommend addressing these elements in advance so we can work out together a price that best reflects your project’s complexity and requirements.
The above elements will always be settled in advance, so there are never any surprises or hidden fees.
No. Even within the same product, different application and plug-in versions present compatibility and stability issues on different systems. Working with exports of the audio files is the only way to ensure a safe transfer process
It can take as little as 1 – 2 days, with the average being 2 – 3. It depends how fast we communicate and work through adjustments/revisions. I can usually accommodate any reasonable request or due date so just mention your thoughts about this when we chat
I am available to collaborate by e-mail two times/day, Monday through Friday.
